Unique Shell Horn Herald

Our Signature Shell Horn Herald

Our very cool Shell Horn Herald!

Our signature Triton Shell Horn Blowing by our Officiant or Minister is included optionally:

  • An ancient tradition, classy, coastal, fun, elegant and SUBLIME – gorgeous and mellow sounding!
  • This shell horn is also used in symphonies and orchestras for its lovely low, strong, tone

Revs. David and Margo use the Triton shell horn instead of a Caribbean conch at your ceremony. The Triton is much prettier in photos, has a more musical tone and sounds smoother too.  This horn is more reliable than a conch to make an impressive sound in all weather conditions too.

Just like church bells and trumpet fanfare played at indoor weddings, the shell horn heralds the Beginning of a new Marriage and calls in blessings and good fortune for the happy couple.

When blown properly, the Triton shell produces a low,  gentle sound that can carry for miles across land and sea!

The Hawaiian ceremonial practice of blowing the Triton shell dates back to ancient times and continues to be used in present-day events such as symphonies, orchestras, graduations and weddings. In Polynesia, this distinctive resonance from the horn once heralded the arrival of the the Chief or Royalty, the beginning of the peaceful Makahiki season (Hawai’ian New Year), or other noteworthy events.

Today, it is often heard at weddings, graduations, or other special celebrations in ANY country with a seashore coast:  the Caribbean, the USA, Celtic/Irish/Scottish islands, and on African and Asian shores too.

The sound it makes? Seashells were used as ship horns before the inventions of metal and electricity, thus the low, deep vibrating sound reminds most people of a foghorn on a boat. Please listen to video linked above to hear it briefly. It is

Unique Sand Ceremonies & Bottle

Unique Sand Ceremony & Bottle

Our Signature Sand Ceremony & Glass Heart Bottle ~

Our unique and lovely sand ceremonies are included free in every ceremony which our Officiant/Minister performs. It’s easy, fun, meaningful and very pretty!

During our unique sand ceremonies, as your Officiant guides you through it:

  • each of your scoop up some beach sand from beneath your own feet, right where you stand for your ceremony, then
  • place that natural sand ceremonially in a big yellow seashell
  • then together you pour it into a sturdy, pretty, keepsake glass bottle which is heart-shaped (we provide bottle or use yours)
  • last, we say a short lid/cork-closing blessing (or non-religious closuree) to ‘seal’ it all
  • See below pictures
  • The bottle is 4.5 inches tall, 3 inches wide, and 2.5 inches thick
  • You may include guests, kids, family at no extra charge, or the two of you only.

Afterward, couple keeps that lovely heart-shaped bottle of loved sand, as our gift, no charge of course. Take it for engraving later or as-is. At your home, perhaps you might set it on a special shelf or nook in your home as a truly  meaningful keepsake.

  • Note, just in case:  IF your beach sand is damp (its the beach, it might be…) during ceremony, when you are home again, open and leave the top off bottle for several days to dry out more thoroughly. You want it very dry.
  • We also offer an ‘off-beach’ version which is equally fun, cool & lovely! We bring a cute pail of local beach sand and same bottle to the ceremony and add a few words telling everyone what sand in the pail, too.

Wooden Flute Music by David

LIVE, WOODEN FLUTE MUSIC

Wooden Flute Serenade by David:

Rev. David Sears has been playing wind imstruments a long time. Now he plays them for YOU.

David played the French horn and a baritone horn in high school. Later in life, he took up this special flute under the instruction of Shaman Nella Silverspear, a popular flute maker and recording artist who has since peacefully passed away in 2022. She also showed him how to make wooden flutes from scratch.

Now, David plays a variety of Native American-style Wooden Flutes, and usually brings 2 with him to your beach wedding when you order a Wooden Flute Serenade service from us at Beachpeople Weddings.

FAQ: When will he play flute at your ceremony?
Answer: Anytime! His suggestions of times include any or all of these:

  • during the bride or groom entrance (or both)
  • attendants entrances
  • Parents/Family entrances
  • Recessionals
  • popular is afterward for a First Dance on the beach (see sample video above)
  • during any other milestones before or after your wedding

David is flexible and answers questions to coordinate with you, during our routine planning phone appointment that happens usually 1 month prior to your ceremony.  Enjoy!  Aho! Blessings!

Enhancements and Artwork to Photos

Enhancements of Photos

family enhancements
~ Enhancements, Touch-Ups and Artwork

Packages with “enhanced” or “enhancements” wording get the edits, touch-ups and visual enhancements needed for outdoor photography (which inherently has big challenges with unpredictable light changes, oblivious strangers in background, and no control of objects in the environment). See list of the possible changes, below.

FYI: Margo chooses which images to alter, but she prefers to keep your faces natural looking as possible. Some artsy creativity is also very valuable too! Learn about Margo’s background. If your

Enhancements May Include (and sample pics below):
  1. Remove distracting strangers, chairs, poles, trash cans, bags, shoes, etc.
  2. Boost sky colors & streaks to appear more sunrise or sunset-y colorful
  3. Add lens flare – overlay a pale colorful ray of sun spots, looks romantic, soft, mystical
  4. Teeth whitening and/or replace missing teeth (my specialty, so you can genuinely SMILE!)
  5. Remove bruises, cuts, scars, pimples, some age spots and sometimes bra straps
  6. Make 1-3 select-color images: combine black-n-white and color into 1 image (i.e. flowers in color, all else is grayscale)
  7. Soften wrinkles or reduce a double chin
  8. Lighten harsh shadows on important faces
  9. Remove some flyaway hair strands, when possible
  10. Level the horizon line on ocean
  11. Make 2-4 dramatic Sepia (brownish) or Black-n-White copies
  12. Make 1-2 dramatic, colorful “oil painting” copies of abstract photos (ones without faces)
  13. Overlay vignettes (very subtle “haze” around image borders–creates focus)
  14. Add subtle face ‘makeup’ to fix faded lipstick, sweated-off eyebrows, uneven outdoors light/shadows

Below, click gray dots under the pics to see next ones…

Color-Isolation: Both Black-n-White + Color.

Lens Flare spots, Oil Painting, Crystal Ball.

Been travelling a lot and lost touch with friends?

Try this simple, logical, useful flowchart to help decide which guest to invite to your beach wedding when you just are not sure.
You’re welcome!
Guest

Still Overwhelmed?! Ideas...

  • Try hiring a Wedding Planner or Coordinator we recommend on our Suggested Vendors page. There are also Invitation services online on The Knot and Wedding Wire websites.
  • Ask your friends, coworkers or colleagues who married to recommend an Invitation Service.  Sometimes those companies can offer solutions to invitation dilemmas and awkward decisions.
  • Another popular solution is to ELOPE alone for a happy, warm, EASY private beach wedding. Hire a videographer (we recommend Bob Collins at www.bobvox.com). Later on, you throw a big reception party dinner & cake back home complete with a large viewing screen for the video!
  • Invite everyone who wants to view your wedding video and celebrate!  For extra party time fun, you can:
    • ‘Re-enact’ the ceremony with a fun-natured loved one Officiating
    • Get friends/family to stand up as Best Man, Best Dog, best Woman, Flower Boy, etc.
    • Wear your wedding dress and suit again for that party!
    • Carry a small bouquet and THROW IT.  Or throw a bridal scarf or hat!
    • Have toasts and songs from Guests, a cake Cutting and Feeding, have your First Dance, Daddy/Daughter or Mommy/Son dances, do the Shoe Game, Dollars Dance, Broom Jump, a Photo Booth, sign a Quilt or Ketubbah, do karaoke, etc.
    • Have fun with getting  people involved in the FUN!

9 More Cool Tips

9 Tips for a Happy Wedding!

Beach and outdoor weddings can be among the most beautiful and magical, but good planning is essential! Here is our EXTRA advice from years of experience:
  1. No email reply from us in 12 hours?
Check your junkmail or spam filter for our reply message… its usually in there. Put our address in your address book or Safe List to avoid future issue: kiss@beachpeopleweddings.com
  2. Flower petals on the beach
Fake petals are unlawful to drop on sand (it is littering). Please-Please-Please, only use REAL flower petals. Protect innocent wildlife…silk and artificial petals are plastic pollution on the beach. They kill sea turtles and birds that eat them (they actually do – a lot). Real flower petals are fine.
  3. Elderly and handicapped guests
Some elderly or mobility issues guests struggle with the high heat, long boardwalks, stairs, and unstable shifting sand. Consider videotaping the ceremony for them, or ask us for advice on easier locations nearby. Want affordable video? bobvox.com.
  4. Dress to be yourself
Consider colorful, beachy dresses and shirts and light pants/shorts. You may even wish to have bare feet in the soft sand (maybe toe and ankle bling instead!). But ladies, if you are heart-set on that gorgeous wedding gown and special shoes, please go for it! Be yourself! The more color you bring to a bleached white & beige beach photograph, the better. Color celebrates! Think colorful ribbons, flowers, clothes, etc.
  5. Rings Safety on Sand
Consider putting rings in a single ring box or small drawstring bag so they are protected and can be found if they are dropped. There is potential for this, especially if a nervous or very young ringbearer is carrying them.
  6. Traffic & Travel Time
Please know exactly where your ceremony is with a trial run beforehand. On the day of the ceremony, make plenty of time to get there. Seriously, vacation traffic jams easily delay you for more than an hour! No kidding! So please leave extra time to drive to your wedding. Tell your guests too.
  7. Child Care Tips
Designate a childcare person instead of you. You should enjoy your own ceremony with your new spouse. Appoint a trusted adult for potty, snacks, hugs, kisses, distraction, safety, etc. Be sure kids are not hungry, get LOTS of nurturing attention FROM YOU beforehand, and get good sleep!
  8. Difficult Guests?
Don’t try to own the issues of difficult family and guests during this special time. You don’t need to mediate fights, or compromise for them, or do anything but ENJOY YOUR wedding and YOUR day! Guests need to politely show respect for you and your wedding and be accommodating.
  9. When you leave home or hotel for your ceremony–bring a tote bag with your marriage license, money owed vendors, beach permit (if applies), flowers, mirror, lipstick, comb, hairspray, tissues, sunglasses, sunscreen, touchup makeup, decor, gifts, and photo props.

Myrtle Beach Disallows Beach Weddings

Myrtle Beach Law Disallows Beach Weddings

myrtle
City of Myrtle Beach restricts Beach Weddings ~

The law of the City of Myrtle Beach, SC prohibits commercial beach weddings within city limits on beach — see it here: https://www.visitmyrtlebeach.com/things-to-do/weddings-honeymoons/know-the-rules

In summary it says: “City of Myrtle Beach public beach: Commercially produced weddings are not permitted on the public beach [within city limits]. Non-commercial weddings are allowed on the public beach.  A commercially produced wedding includes services that have been paid for…”
And there is more in there  you NEED to read yourself.

Confusing? Yes. So MB law you offers 2 exceptions for beach weddings:

  1. It’s allowed ONLY above the high tide line (wrack line/row of dead seaweed/flotsam) at a few older oceanfront hotels that were “grandfathered” in because they are private property.
  2. Non-commercial beach weddings are allowed. What’s the difference between commercial and non-commercial?
    • “Commercial” you pay people to do services (such as an Officiant, chair/arbor rentals, Photographer).
    • “Non-commercial” ALL your service people are volunteers only.
BUT GOOD NEWS:
  • Some oceanfront places  have a “Myrtle Beach SC” address online, but actually sit OUTSIDE city limits–so you can do your ceremony there!
  • this law does NOT prohibit ceremonies being held on the lawns, patios, gardens and pools of oceanfront hotels/resorts OVERLOOKING the ocean…that is private property.
  • Southern city limit line – the Springmaid Pier itself is the city-limit line (right side of that pier allows beach weddings; left side is no).
  • Northern city limit line -Starts at The Dunes Beach Club (about around the start of Shore Drive).
  • Avoid the hassle:  we strongly suggest using other nearby great locations.  They are MUCH more beautiful, natural, located very nearby, and they allow beach weddings.

North Myrtle Beach Laws & Permit

North Myrtle Beach Wedding Couples, starting 2024
YOU SHOULD KNOW:

(this info does NOT apply to off-beach weddings in NMB)

North Myrtle Beach city government begin new Ordinance/ law restrictions, regulations, and permit fees for beach weddings in 2024. This strongly affects wedding couples and all of their hired vendors such as us.

The main purposes of these new regulations and permit fee are:

  • minimize the general public’s experience of other people’s public activity & sounds on a public beach,
  • obligate visitors (you) and civilian locals (us) to police sand dunes (covering  2 acres for around 1 hour) while attending to your own wedding.
  • hold private businesses (us) and visitors (you) legally & financially responsible for uncontrollable actions causing dunes damage by general public, known or unknown to you or us.

FYI: Beachpeople Weddings pays for NMB business license, plus Horry County business license, plus a new ADDITIONAL Photography permit they created with this new Ordinance. AND Beachpeople Weddings will apply for their individual wedding permit FOR YOUR WEDDING once you have a completed a contract and Retainer with us first.

Below is a paraphrase  of the official statement from the City of NMB issues March 2023.
SOME new restrictions affect you & your guests directly.
SOME dictate
what your vendors are allowed to do or not do:

1. A wedding permit and $25 fee is required from EACH vendor you hire (not just us).

3. If a paid wedding vendor is hired, City of North Myrtle Beach business licenses are required before permit is allowed.

4. Professional photography shall occur at least twenty five (25) feet away from sand dune or sand fence.  All people must yield to emergency vehicles on beach.

5. Set-up regulations (no more than):
a. One (1) portable arch.
b. Two (2) small tables.
c. Twenty Four (24) folding chairs.
d. One (1) battery operated portable sound device/speaker.

6. Tiki torches, sky lanterns, floating lanterns and similar devices are prohibited.

7. All wedding activities, including photography, shall not interfere with the use of the public beach.
a. A specific place on the beach shall not be reserved.
b. The public is not required to accommodate any request(s) to move, even those temporary in nature.

8. Wedding receptions and catering of any kind is prohibited.

9. Real rose petals and/or seashells may be scattered during the ceremony. No other materials or items may be thrown or scattered.

10. The staging or erection of obstructions of any kind on the public beach is prohibited.

11. Vendors may not advertise, solicit, or engage in financial transactions on the beach [pay vendor’s balances while off beach such as in parking lot or online].

If you have any questions, comments or complaints, please contact Tammy Miller, North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department at (843) 281-3758, or email her: tgmiller@nmb.us.

YOU SHOULD KNOW:

    • City of North Myrtle REQUIRES we disclose both of your names and your address to them online upfront or else no permit.
    • This is an attempt to hold you and us legally liable for any sand dunes damage by both guests OR nearby strangers during the time period and location of your permit which covers roughly 2 acres of beach access for at least 1 hour
    • They briefly mention your liability buried at the end of the second bullet on this link (but they spell it out, in no uncertain terms, on the vendors’ permit application webpage which WE must fill out, and it is buried in the new city ordinances).
    • If that breach of your privacy and irrational liability is unacceptable to you, then we can guide you to other beautiful nearby beaches with no crazy liabilities, fees, and fewer restrictions.  We offer you easy, free, no-fuss solutions! Contact us.
